Add Port and Programs to the Exception List of Windows 8 Firewall

You can add the Port and Programs to the exception list of Windows 8.

  1. Go to Control Panel Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall screen appears:
  2. Click Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall.
  3. Click Change Settings and scroll down to TallyPrime in the Apps list.
  4. Select TallyPrime and click OK.
    Note: To add other apps which are not there in the list, you can click Allow another app.
  5. In the Windows Firewall screen, click Change notifications settings.

    The following screen appears:
  6. By default, the options Turn on Windows Firewall and Notify me when Windows Firewall blocks a new app will be selected. Retain the current settings. However, these options can be changed according to the needs of the users.
  7. In the Windows Firewall screen, for the option Turn Windows Firewall on or off, the same procedure as that done for Change Notifications and Settings can be repeated.
  8. In the Windows Firewall screen, click Advanced Settings. The following screen appears:
  9. Click Inbound Rules.
  10. Under Actions of Inbound Rules, click New Rule(Right hand side). 

    The Rule Type window is displayed as shown:
  11. Click Port and click Next. The Protocol and Ports screen appears as shown:
  12. Under Does this rule apply to TCP or UDP? Select TCP.
  13. Under Does this rule apply to all ports or specific local ports? Select Specific local ports.
    Note: - By default, the options TCP and Specific local ports will be marked as selected - Click here for complete list of URLs and IP address. For a complete list of URLs and IP address, refer to the Exclude IP/Hostnames in Firewall or Proxy topic.
  14. Click Next. The Action screen appears, to specify the action to be taken when a connection matches the conditions specified in the rule.
  15. Select Allow the connection.
  16. Click Next. The Profile screen appears, to specify the profile for which this rule applies.
  17. Select the required options.
  18. Click Next. The Name screen appears, to specify the name and description of this rule.
  19. Under Name field, specify the rule name.
  20. Under Description (optional) field, specify the description.
  21. Click Finish. The Inbound Rules window displays the new rule created in the Inbound Rules list as shown.

 

Similarly, you also need to add the Port for the Outbound Rules,

  1. Go to Control Panel Windows Firewall.
  2. The Windows Firewall screen opens, click Advanced settings. The Windows Firewall with Advanced Security on Local Computer window opens.
  3. Click Outbound Rules.
  4. Under Actions of Outbound Rules, click New Rule (Right hand side).
  5. The Rule Type window is displayed, click Port and follow the steps as discussed above for Inbound Rules. To add programs to the exception list:
  6. Go to Control Panel Windows Firewall. The Windows Firewall screen appears.
  7. Click Advanced settings. The Windows Firewall with Advanced Security on Local Computer window opens.
  8. Click Inbound Rules.
  9. Under Actions of Inbound Rules, click New Rule (Right hand side).
  10. The Rule Type window appears to select the type of firewall rule to create. The option Program is marked as selected by default.
  11. Click Program (under Steps). The Program screen appears, to specify the full program path and executable name of the program that this rule matches:
  12. Select This program path and click Browse.
  13. The browse window opens, select the required drive and the folder.
  14. Select the program file.
  15. Click Open and click Next.
  16. The Action screen appears, to specify the action to be taken when a connection matches the conditions specified in the rule.
  17. Select Allow the connection.
  18. Click Next. The Profile screen appears, to specify the profile for which this rule applies.
  19. Select the required options.
  20. Click Next. The Name screen appears, to specify the name and description of this rule.
  21. Under Name field, specify the rule name.
  22. Under Description (optional) field, specify the description.
  23. Click Finish. The Inbound Rules displays the new rule created in the Inbound Rules list as shown:

 

Similarly, add the Program for the Outbound Rules

  1. Go to Control Panel Windows Firewall.
  2. The Windows Firewall screen opens, click on Advanced settings. The Windows Firewall with Advanced Security on Local Computer window opens.
  3. Click on Outbound Rules.
  4. Under Actions of Outbound Rules, click New Rule (Right hand side).
  5. The Rule Type window is displayed, click Program and follow the steps as discussed above for Inbound Rules.
